I’m very excited to announce that KERNSPIRACY has collaborated with Marketing Mentor co-founder and design industry vet Peleg Top to offer a unique and valuable workshop experience for creative professionals.
In addition to learning a ton of practical advice, tips and tricks culled from Peleg’s nearly two decades of experience running a successful design studio, this [...]

Khoi Vinh on Tropiscandal! ‘09

NYTimes.com Design Director Khoi Vinh’s take on the Tropicana packaging scandal is notable primarily because he’s the only person I’ve seen addressing the usability problems introduced by Arnell’s revisions to the brand:

Good News: FontExplorer X Hits 2.0, Bad News: Linotype Can Suck It

In conjunction with this week’s MacWorld Expo, Linotype has released the latest version of their widely lauded font management application, FontExplorer X. Billabong Picks Up Sector 9, Gullwing

Aussie surf brand Billabong announced last week that it had acquired longboard makers Sector 9 and, subsequently, Sector 9’s truck brand, Gullwing. I’m stoked on this otherwise standard industry news because I designed the baseplate type for Gullwing’s Charger model. The Charger itself was designed by Neil from Carver Skateboards.

Battlestar Galactica Licensing Really Hits the Mark

I think these Battlestar Galactica propaganda-style posters designed by Quantum Mechanix are a really fantastic example of smart licensing. Whereas most of attempts to do this kind of thing are foiled by brand managers who insist on slapping a huge logo right where it doesn’t belong (hello Napoleon Dynamite’s “Vote for Pedro” tees), these demonstrate what [...]

Great Tattoo Santa Holiday Promo from R/GA

I’d like to think that one of these years I’ll do a holiday promotion for Tokyo Farm that’s as smart as R/GA’s Tattoo Santa.

Old & Busted: Coffee, New Hotness: ENERGY COFFEE!

Spotted this on a snowboarding trip to Colorado a few weeks ago. What can I even say?
